Napoli want Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz

Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz has emerged as a January transfer target for Italian side Napoli, according to reports.

Diario AS cite Corriere dello Sport’s highlight of the Neapolitan clubs interest in the Dominican-born striker, who only returned to Madrid this summer from Olympique Lyonnais.

The driving factor behind the move is said to be Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti, formerly of Madrid, who is reportedly a big fan of the Spaniard.

Julen Lopetegui was apparently key in Mariano’s choice to return to Madrid but the former La Roja boss is now said to be on the brink at the Bernabeu.

The 25-year-old has only started one match for the European champions this season despite the €25m fee and Madrid’s lack of goalscoring prowess.
