Barcelona did not match Ajax’s valuation of midfielder Frenkie De Jong, claims sporting director Marc Overmars, who ruled out a January sale.
The 21-year-old made his Netherlands debut on Thursday and has already played 10 times for the Amsterdam club this season.
“Barca’s valuation of the player did not match his qualities so no offer was accepted,” Overmars told reporters, as cited by Diario Sport.
“Will they return in January? They can if they want but no players will be sold by Ajax in the middle of the season.”
Last season, De Jong registered seven assists from 22 Eredivisie appearances leading to interest from a number of clubs, most notably the Catalan giants.
