Barcelona are reportedly battling Tottenham Hotspur to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca’s attempts to bring forward a possible deal for Jong were prompted by Tottenham showing interest.
The newspaper explains Spurs offered €50m for the 20-year-old but, like the Blaugrana, were told the player was not for sale.
The English side were drawn in Barca’s Champions League group and have signed Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Davinson Sanchez from Ajax in recent years.
The 21-year-old, meanwhile, made his Netherlands debut on Thursday and has already played 10 times for the Amsterdam club this season.
