Ceballos ‘resented’ Zidane at Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos admits he ‘resented’ former Coach Zinedine Zidane last season due to a lack of playing time.

The midfielder joined Madrid from Real Betis for €16m but started just four times in La Liga and not at all in the Champions League under the Frenchman.

Ceballos is now more involved in the European champions first-team affairs and has earnt a first call-up to the Spanish national team.

“Because of the situation I felt both frustration and resentment towards Zidane,” Ceballos is cited as saying by Marca.

“This stemmed from the times when either or both of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric were unavailable but instead of promoting me, the system changed so I was excluded.

“When those moments happen you get hurt and it eats away at you, even when the games were long after the title was out of reach for us.

“Now the style of play is different and wants to play with lots of possession and a view to attacking.”
