Lucas Hernandez believes Atletico Madrid are well placed for success this season despite a slow start to the campaign.
Los Rojiblancos have accumulated just four points from their opening three games but Lucas insists they recruited strongly and played up Antoine Griezmann’s chances of individual awards.
“We have recruited very well this summer,” Hernandez is cited as saying by Diario AS.
“It is important to have three world champions in the squad (following the signing of Thomas Lemar) and he is one of the best attackers in the world, it is a significant deal.
“The Ballon d’Or? Griezmann should be the favourite, he has been the star of the tournaments he has played in this year and has been decisive in winning trophies.
“My place in the France national team? Didier Deschamps picked me for my defensive qualities, but I also needed to offer something offensively and get the balance right.
“After the World Cup, Diego Simeone explained to me that he had found out new elements of my game.”
