Maxi Gomez has reaffirmed his commitment to Celta Vigo by insisting he is ‘very happy’ at the club despite ‘media talk’.
The Uruguayan striker has a €50m release clause at the Galician side and had been linked with a number of moves away, with West Ham United and Sevilla both strongly linked.
“There is always a lot of talk in the media, it is normal,” Gomez told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“At Christmas last year there was a lot of talk that I would move to China too, but the truth is I am very happy at Celta, here I am progressing, fighting and working hard – I want to continue here.
“Saturday’s victory over Atletico was very important, we have continued our strong start to the league and we are all highly motivated.
“We have seven points from our first nine matches and we are very happy, long may it continue!”
Gomez hit 17 La Liga goals in 35 starts having signed from Defensor Sporting last summer in a €4m deal in 2017.
