Januzaj interests Leicester

Leicester City are thought to be interested in signing Adnan Januzaj after the loss of Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City this summer.

The 23-year-old was sold by Manchester United to Real Sociedad for €10m in July 2017 and appears to have been handed a new lease of life with the Basque club, following a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United have first refusal on the Belgium international, who forced his way into Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad in Russia and responded with a goal in his country’s group stage win over England.

Januzaj had struggled to make an impact under former Reds’ boss David Moyes, with a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund brought to an early conclusion, which marked the end of his time in Manchester.

Another disappointing loan deal at Sunderland followed before Jose Mourinho told him he was not part of his plans and allowed him to leave for Northern Spain.

However, he turned in some impressive performances at Anoeta last term, which has aroused the interest of some of the continents’ top clubs and sparked rumours of a return to the Premier League, with Everton also understood to be keeping tabs on the player.

Nonetheless, Sociedad will be unwilling to let Januzaj depart for anything other than the €60m release clause in his contract.
