Madrid’s Kovacic ‘rejects United move’

Manchester United have submitted a €60m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic but the player is not keen on that move, say Marca.

The Croatian international joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2015 and has won three Champions League titles among nine trophies in the time since.

The 24-year-old has reportedly been pushing for an exit from the Bernabeu this summer in search of more playing time, but the report states he is not keen on a move to Jose Mourinho’s side.

He is said to have instructed his through the intermediary Vlado Lemic to find him a new club where he will play more minutes, but Old Trafford may not be his ideal destination.

AS claims Madrid ‘remain calm over the situation’ and fully intend to retain his services as they see him as an important player for future years.

A report in Marca last week said the Croat spoke to Lopetegui following his return from the World Cup and insisted he wished to depart the Bernabeu for more first-team opportunities.

A report in Sky Sports earlier this month that Manchester City wanted the midfielder but Madrid responded by stating he was priced at €80m, which killed the potential of any move.

The Croat has started only 37 La Liga games across three seasons and started only 10 in his most recent campaign.

Kovacic joined the European champions from Inter in 2015 in a €35m deal, having originally cost the Milanese giants €11m from Dinamo Zagreb.
