Joaquin Correa nears Lazio switch

Sevilla playmaker Joaquin Correa ‘is in the final phase’ of joining Italian giants Lazio in a €20m deal, according to reports.

Marca cite a report in Sky Sport Italia that the deal is for an initial €16m plus variables, while Real Sociedad had also expressed a firm interest.

The 23-year-old played just 21 minutes in the Andalusian club’s final four matches of the campaign under the tutelage of interim Coach Joaquin Caparros, who is now the Director of Football.

The report states Caparros is now keen to sell the Argentine, while Coach Pablo Machin has given his green light to the deal.

The deal is now ‘red hot’ and could be processed as early as this week, despite the player having no great intention of leaving the club.

Los Rojiblancos paid €13m to sign Correa from Sampdoria in the summer of 2016 but he may find himself frozen out with the club requiring further funds for replenishing their squad.

Correa netted seven goals and provided seven assists last season at Sevilla.
