Nagelsmann: I turned down Madrid

Julian Nagelsmann has admitted that he down an approach from Real Madrid after the departure of Zinedine Zidane.

Nagelsmann steered German outfit Hoffenheim into third place in the Bundesliga last season and a place in the Champions League proper, causing some of Europe’s top clubs to cast their eyes in his direction.

However, the 31-year-old has agreed to take over at RB Leipzig for the 2019-20 campaign and has approved a four-year contract, but he has not ruled out taking over at the Santiago Bernabeu in the future.

“Madrid called me,” he told 11Freunde. “Who would hang up the telephone? Universe Football Club does not exist, so there is no bigger club than Real Madrid.

"But I am 31 years old, I will have another chance. I didn't want to move countries."
