Sevilla close in on Sergi Gomez?

Sevilla are reportedly close to signing Celta Vigo centre-back and Barcelona youth product Sergi Gomez.

Gomez appeared to be on his way to Toulouse, but El Desmarque claims he decided to pull out of the transfer once he learned of Sevilla’s interest.

The website explains the Andalusians have turned to the 26-year-old to replace Clement Lenglet after an ‘extensive search’ carried out by sporting director Joaquin Caparros and his staff.

Los Nervionenses would have also offered the Catalan a four-year contract and lured him to Sanchez Pizjuan with the prospect of Europa League football.

The former Spain Under-21 international left Barca for Celta in 2014 and has gone on to make 134 appearances for the Galicians.

However, with only one year left on his Celestes contract, he looks set to become Sevilla’s fourth summer signing after Roque Mesa, Tomas Vaclik and Ibrahim Amadou.
