Ajax rule out Barca’s De Jong move

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has ruled out the club selling Frenkie De Jong – a reported Barcelona target – this summer.

The 21-year-old registered seven assists from 22 Eredivisie appearances last term and has been linked with a switch to the Camp Nou for several months.

“Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt are not for sale if it is up to us,” Overmars told De Telegraaf, in quotes carried by ESPN FC.

“Let them play 40 games in a season for Ajax first.

“De Jong? He is not for sale. I have communicated that to all the different parties.”

Barca have already signed Gremio midfielder Arthur Melo this summer but the departures of Paulinho and Andres Iniesta suggest another midfielder may arrive.

De Jong and Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabio have been strongly linked to the Blaugrana.
