Barcelona only have enough money to sign one of their two main central midfield targets Frenkie De Jong (pictured) and Adrien Rabiot, say Diario AS.
The report say that both central midfielders are likely to cost in the region of €40-45m, while Barca’s budget would only carry the scope for one such deal to go through.
“Only one of the two players can come due to the financial position and the squad strength,” the Madrid-based daily cites a source as telling them with the Dutch midfielder said to be the preference.
De Jong, 21, registered seven assists from 22 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax this term and has been linked with a switch to the Camp Nou for several months.
Rabiot’s contractual situation – expiring at Paris Saint-Germain next summer — has given hope to the Spanish champions that a value deal can be struck this summer for a player for whom they’ve had a long-standing interest.
