Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta believes the deal for Valencia’s Joao Cancelo allowed the club to then sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Italian champions signed both Portuguese players this summer – who share the same agent – for a reported combined fee in the region of €150m.
“Cristiano was the first person to believe in this deal and make sure the moves happened, he chose to join Juventus,” Marotta told Corriere della Sera in quotes carried by Diario AS.
“When we realised the possibility of this opportunity coming to fruition, the shareholders decided to back the club in our efforts.
“Everything really started with the transfer of Cancelo, because in Jorge Mendes he has the same agent as Cristiano.
“Cristiano is very happy with the decision and has already agreed to live in a penthouse in the centre of Turin.”
