Madrid pay Ronaldo tribute

Ronaldo’s move to the Serie A champions was confirmed on Tuesday evening by Los Blancos, with reports from Italy and Spain agreeing the fee is over €100m.

The Portugal captain leaves after 438 games for the club and 451 goals, two La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues.

“Today, Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the brightest times in the history of our club and world football,” the club’s statement read.

“Beyond the conquered titles, the trophies achieved and the triumphs on the pitch during these nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo has been an example of dedication, work, responsibility, talent and improvement.

“He has also become the top scorer in the history of Real Madrid with 451 goals in 438 games. In total, 16 titles, including four European Cups, three of them consecutive and four in the last five seasons.

“On an individual basis, with the Real Madrid shirt he has won four Balons d’Or, two FIFA The Best awards and three Golden Boots, among many others.

“For Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of the great symbols and a unique reference for the next generation. Real Madrid will always be your home.”
