Guti leaves Madrid, joins Besiktas

Real Madrid Juvenil Coach Guti has left the club for Turkish giants Besiktas, where he has been appointed as assistant Coach.

Guti has been in charge of Madrid’s Juvenil A team for under-19 players since 2013, winning a domestic cup double last season.

However, despite reports that he had agreed a new contract to stay in the role, the 41-year-old has decided to step down after not being offered a promotion to their Castilla side.

The former Madrid midfielder had been linked with a number of managerial vacancies this summer including replacing Zinedine Zidane, alongside posts at Leganes, Real Murcia and Scottish club St Mirren.

“Today I want to thank Real Madrid, my home, for all the years I enjoyed as a player and as a Coach,” Guti wrote on Twitter.

“In a few days I am joining Besiktas, my home too, as assistant Coach to continue my professional development.

“I thank Besiktas for the affection and confidence they have put in me, and I will return that with lots of work and motivation.”

Guti netted 77 times in 542 games for Madrid between 1995 and 2010, winning five La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.
