Cancelo completes €40m Juve move

Juventus have completed the €40.4m signing of Valencia defender Joao Cancelo, both clubs have confirmed.

The Portuguese full-back has agreed a five-year deal with the Turin-based club and completed his medical at Juve’s J Medical facility on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who made 26 appearances on a season-long loan deal at Inter last season, is set to leave the Mestalla this summer.

“Valencia CF have signed an agreement with Juventus FC for the transfer of full-back Joao Cancelo to the Italian club,” read a Valencia statement, as published on official club media.

“VCF wish the Portugal international the best for this new step in his career.”

The Milanese giants subsequently missed the May deadline to activate their €35m right to buy the defender, due to their desire to meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Valencia would prefer to keep Cancelo but their own financial situation means they must sell before they can replenish their squad, despite qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
