Atleti agree terms for Lemar – report

Atletico Madrid are close to completing the signing of Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar with a deal expected imminently, according to reports in Spain.

Cadena Ser say that a deal is ‘virtually done’ and the deal is in such advanced stages that the Frenchman has been promised the number 10 shirt at the club.

The 22-year-old is a versatile attacker able to play on both wings as well as through the centre and in a free role, while he is predominantly left-footed.

Lemar joined Monaco from Caen in 2015 and rose to prominence in the 2016-17 campaign, when he netted 14 goals and registered 17 assists in 55 appearances as the club won Ligue 1 and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Last season proved tougher for both the club and the Guadeloupe-born player, who scored just two goals in 27 league starts.

A member of the France squad for this summer’s World Cup, the forward was linked to Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool last summer.

Whilst Monaco were said to be at one point demanding €80m for the French international, it is likely Atleti will pay less for his services.
