Report: Bale demands star status

It is reported Gareth Bale will only stay at Real Madrid if he is guaranteed a starring role next season.

Bale revealed his unhappiness at being benched for Saturday’s Champions League Final, which saw him mark his substitute appearance with two goals in a 3-1 win for Madrid against Liverpool.

Marca reports the Welshman’s agent Jonathan Barnett will hold talks with Blancos officials ‘in the next few weeks’ but warns the meeting ‘promises to be tense’, despite their ‘good’ relationship.

This is because it Is unlikely the club will guarantee the No 11 ‘minutes in big games’, which is what he would be demanding.

However, the newspaper assures Bale’s issue is ‘only sporting’ and that he wants to stay in the Spanish capital, despite being ‘bothered’ by the European champions’ plans to sell him in February.

Marca notes Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are the players Zinedine Zidane deems ‘untouchable’ – a group Bale would like to enter.

The former Tottenham Hotspur attacker, who was linked with Manchester United by the English Press on Monday morning, scored 21 goals in 39 appearances for Madrid in 2017-18.
