Wijnaldum: Zidane is my idol

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has described Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane as his ‘idol’ ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final.

The Dutch midfielder looks set to start in Saturday’s showpiece in Kyiv due to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury, coming up against Coach Zidane for the first time.

“When I was younger, Zidane was my idol because of how he played, he was a maestro,” Wijnaldum is cited as saying by Marca.

“He made difficult scenarios and pieces of skill look incredible easy, I really liked his style of play – but I do not think I will be able to tell him that to his face.

“Is it a motivation for the final? Well you do not need any motivation before a match like this, a European final.

“This is a dream for me but I joined this club to win titles and to be participating in matches like this – just look at the legends of this club and what they achieved.

“We need to win a lot more games, more trophies, if we are to become legends.”
