Atletico Madrid will ask the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to allow Diego Simeone to stand on the touchline for the UEFA Super Cup.

The Argentine is halfway through a four-match ban handed down after he was sent to the stands during the first leg of Atleti’s Europa League semi-final against Arsenal.

The Super Cup – against Real Madrid or Liverpool – is due to be played on August 15 at Tallinn’s 10,240-capacity A. Le Coq Arena, and will be Atletico’s first game of the 2018-19 campaign, with AS reporting that they are desperate to have Simeone back on the touchline for it.

Los Colchoneros sounded out CAS over his ban prior to the Europa League final against Marseille, having failed to convince them he should be able to watch the game in the dugout, and they want to avoid a repeat of the same situation in Estonia.
