Pepe Mel set for Las Palmas job

Former Real Betis and Deportivo Coach Pepe Mel is set to be appointed at relegated Las Palmas, replacing Paco Jemez, according to reports.

Los Amarillos suffered demotion to the second tier, bringing an end to their three-year stint in the top-flight while Mel has previously won the Segunda title twice with Betis.

Mel won only six of his 24 matches in charge of Depor, from where he was dismissed in October, including only two from nine La Liga outings this season, a run which included five defeats.

However, the Coach's success in the second tier is said to appeal to the Gran Canarian club, with Cadena Cope reporting an agreement has been struck.

Jemez was appointed to his hometown club in December but failed to reverse their fortunes, winning just two of 23 matches, losing 15.
