Real Sociedad midfielder Sergio Canales has reportedly agreed a four-year contract with Real Betis.

According to Marca among other publications, Canales will join Betis on a free transfer after ‘several months of tough negotiations’.

The former Real Madrid man has regained his form this season, scoring four goals and assisting 11 in 43 appearances for La Real in 2017-18.

Canales was considered one of Spain’s brightest prospects when he broke through at Racing Santander during the 09-10 campaign.

He went on sign for Real Madrid but failed to build on his potential, before embarking on an injury-ravaged spell at Valencia.

The 27-year-old moved to La Real in 2014 and has managed to play more than 150 times in San Sebastian, despite an ACL injury disrupting his second season.

Canales is set to become Betis’ third signing of the summer after Eibar midfielder Takashu Inui and Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez.

The Andalusians will be assured of European qualification next season if arch-rivals Sevilla fail to beat Real Madrid on Wednesday.
