Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng will miss the remainder of the season and is a doubt for the World Cup, according to reports on Thursday.
The German international limped out of Bayern’s 2-1 defeat in their Champions League semi-final first leg at home to Real Madrid with a muscular injury.
A report in Sport Bild indicates the former Manchester City defender will be out of action for between four and six weeks – ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.
The 29-year-old, who is primarily a central defender yet can play on either side of defence, now appears certain to be ruled out of next week’s return leg at the Bernabeu.
Niklas Sule replaced the Ghanaian-born defender – whose brother Kevin-Prince previously played for Las Palmas – for the remainder of Bayern’s games.
