‘Sevilla still believe’, insists Arias

Sevilla sporting director Oscar Arias insists his club still ‘believe’ in Champions League progression but must ‘show their best version’.

The Andalusian club trail Bayern Munich 2-1 from last week’s first leg at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan and travel to Munich for their second leg on Wednesday.

“We need to show the best version of Sevilla,” Arias is cited as saying by El Desmarque.

“There are circumstances which come up from time to time that show the greatness of football…exceptional circumstances, which are now usual – Roma did this and now we must aim to do so too.

“We have similar feelings that we did before Manchester because this is going to be a complicated game but with a massive reward and potentially fantastic scenario.

“We have the opportunity to make more history and after the first leg, we know we can compete and fight at this level.

“This year has been difficult at times for us, especially in La Liga, but we need to maintain a regularity of performances and results.

“Despite this, we still have all the belief and fight as always – we always want the best version of Sevilla, as against Manchester or Barcelona in the league.

“This is a difficult challenge but we are excited.”
