Sergi Roberto: Players are not machines

Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto has explained that the club’s heavy fixture schedule is behind a lack of freshness: “The players are not machines.”

The Blaugrana have appeared sluggish at times in recent matches as they compete on three fronts – La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

“We have played a lot of games and the players are not machines,” Roberto told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“We give 100% in every match but when you have a heavy schedule for months it takes its toll and you can not always be completely fresh.

“My preferred position? I would rather play in the midfield as this is what I have always done, although I am becoming more accustomed to playing in the right-back position.

“The semi-finals? First we need to qualify, there are 90 minutes left of this game and we have a lot of work to do, we cannot afford to relax.”
