‘Juve final defeat was mental’ – Allegri

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri has lamented his sides ‘mental’ collapse in last season’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The Old Lady lost last year’s showpiece in Cardiff 4-1 against Madrid and face Los Blancos again in this season’s quarter finals.

“I watched it again with my players many times, poor things…,” Allegri said in a pre-match press conference, as cited by Premium Sport.

“After it went to 2-1 we checked out of the game, we made a mistake mentally and not technically, because we needed to stay in the game.

“The game could have been reopened with a bit of calm.

“The main objective for us this season remains the League, the Champions League is a competition that we play to win, knowing that we can’t make any mistakes in two-legged matches.

“In the Quarter-Finals you play the strongest teams and the favourites. This year Real Madrid are there, Barcelona are there, Bayern Munich are there, Manchester City are there – they’re the favourites to lift the trophy.

“We have to be good and try to do everything we can to get to the end.”
