Madrid in talks for ‘new Oblak’?

Real Madrid have reportedly opened talks with Hajduk Split over signing young goalkeeper Karlo Letica, dubbed “the new Jan Oblak”.

According to Marca, Madrid have already contacted Letica’s agent and club over bringing in the 21-year-old, explaining they have found not only an alternative to Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga but also “the perfect foil” for Keylor Navas.

The Croatia Under-21 international has kept six clean sheets in his eight League games for Hajduk this season and has been likened to Oblak for his stature, given he stands at 2.02m.

His arrival would also reinforce Los Blancos’ shift to signing young players with potential after the likes of Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Theo Hernandez and Martin Odegaard.

Marca adds Madrid initially wanted to revive their interest in David de Gea but were put off by Manchester United’s demands of €100m, while Keylor is said to be a key figure in Los Merengues’ dressing room.
