Espanyol grab point in Vigo

Celta Vigo lost ground in the race for Europe as they were held at home by Espanyol despite a double from in-form Maxi Gomez.

The visitors struck first at Estadio Balaidos as Leo Bapistao fired them into a 10th minute lead, but Celta struck back through Gomez just after the half-hour mark.

Despite having the majority of the chances, the hosts could not find a breakthrough until ten minutes from time, when the ball broke lose to the Uruguayan inside the area and he made no mistake.

However, there was still time for Quique Sanchez Flores’s side to rescue a point as Gerard Moreno’s sweetly-struck effort from the edge of the area levelled proceedings with three minutes remaining.

Celta remain 8th in the standings, three points behind Eibar, while Espanyol stay 15th – eight points above the drop zone.
