Lionel Messi’s father says while the No 10 has no Barcelona exit clause if Catalonia gains independence, they would still need to play “in a top League.”
El Mundo reported on Friday that Messi would be able to leave Barca on a free transfer if they did not stay in La Liga or play in the Premier League, Ligue 1 or Bundesliga after Catalonia hypothetically split from Spain.
However, dad Jorge told La Red: “Everything that’s been said isn’t true.
“There’s a commitment from Lionel to the club that he’s staying, providing he plays in a top League.
“Lionel would stay if Catalonia became independent, as long he’s playing in a competitive League.”
