Atletico sell shares in Lens

Atletico Madrid have sold their ownership share in French second tier club Lens only 18 months after investing in the club.

Reports in El Pais had confirmed Los Rojiblancos had spent €5.6m on 34.6% of the shares in Lens in the summer of 2016 but the club has now confirmed these have now been sold.

“Solferino (a company based in Luxembourg) and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the Luxemburger company to acquire the 34.6 percent of Racing Club de Lens, which our club had owned,” a statement on Atletico Madrid’s website confirmed.

Joseph Oughourlian, the owner of Solferino tolds the Lens website as cited by ESPN: “I am happy to be able to announce the sealing of this agreement, which confirms the renewal of our commitment to a mythic club like Lens.

“I want to thank Atletico Madrid who have been at our side as a strategic and trusted partner.”
