Monchi glad to avoid Sevilla

Roma sporting director Monchi is happy the Italian side avoided his former club Sevilla in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Rome-based club were paired with Ukranian outfit Shakhtar Donestk while the Andalucian club will face Manchester United for the first competitive clash between the two clubs.

“Would Sevilla have been better?” Monchi considered, speaking to reporters after the draw.

“I said before the draw I wouldn’t want to face them, in the end we have Shakhtar and we’ll see.

“Now we have to close out the year with important Serie A matches, then we’ll work together to see if we need anything [in January].

“I think the best reinforcements will be [Patrik] Schick, [Gregoire] Defrel and Emerson [Palmieri] but we can’t forget the transfer window is open from January 2.”
