Ramos rues Varane injury

Sergio Ramos admits Real Madrid are “getting too many injuries” after Raphael Varane pulled up during Wednesday’s 3-2 win against Borussia Dortmund.

Varane picked up a suspected muscle strain against Dortmund, leaving only Ramos and Nacho Fernandez as Madrid’s certainties in central defence for the clash with Sevilla at the weekend.

“It was a very intense match,” he said after the game.

“We played the first half-hour with real intensity, but then we dropped off and they took advantage of the chances they had.

“Ultimately, we insisted on finishing the group stage with a victory, which is good for us mentally.

“It was a good group campaign for us. Now we’ll wait for the draw to see who we get in the last 16 and keep looking for our best performances. There are times when we do and times when we don’t.

“Things don’t always go as you want them to, but we’re working hard and we’re on the right path.

“In order to win the Champions League, you have to beat the best teams. We’re in the draw and we’ll see who we get.

“Varane’s injury? It’s bad news and we’re going to have another player out. We’re getting too many injuries. The season is long and it’s less so if you have everyone available.”
