Rodrigo: Don’t blame officials

Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno has called for more video technology to be used in football but insists officials should not be blamed.

The striker – who scored the home side’s goal – was referring to Lionel Messi’s ‘ghost goal’ in Sunday’s clash, with TV cameras showing the ball had crossed the line but officials not confirming the decision.

“It is clear from the TV images that the ball crossed the line,” Rodrigo told Onda Cero.

“Nobody can argue with that, but the officials have a tough job and they can’t always see everything that goes on in a game.

“They need as much help as they can get and any technology that they can receive to strengthen calls is worth having – for instance, in my position I had no idea if that was a goal or not.

“The wig celebration was something I had planned, I had bought the wig on Saturday, as we knew how much Valencia meant to him (former club president Jaime Orti, who died on Friday).

“I wanted to honour him and was glad I got the chance to do so.”
