Bayern Munich midfielder and Spain international Thiago Alcantara has sustained a ‘serious muscle injury’ and is set for a lengthy absence.
The former Barcelona midfielder was seen leaving the stadium on crutches after the Bundesliga side’s 2-1 victory at Anderlecht on Wednesday night.
Coach Jupp Heynckes told his press conference after the match: “I think Thiago has a serious muscle injury,” while director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic told reporters he expects the central midfielder “to be missing for several months.”
The 26-year-old joined the Bavarian club from Barca in 2013 and has gone on to win 23 caps for Spain and is expected to form part of next summer’s World Cup squad.
