VAR confirmed for La Liga

VAR technology will be introduced in La Liga next season, the president of Referees' Technical Committee has confirmed.

Victoriano Sanchez Arminio has informed the league’s officials that the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be part of matches for next season.

“VAR technology will help to solve the doubt of whether a goal is legitimate or not,” Sanchez Arminio is quoted as saying by Marca.

“This was also determine whether the ball has left the field of play or not or if an incident has incurred inside or outside the area.

“An official’s assessment and judgement will continue to have the final say.”

The Spanish top flight is the only one of Europe's top five leagues to not even have goal-line technology, a system which has been cited as too expensive by La Liga president Javier Tebas.

The delay surrounding the introduction of technology into the Spanish game has been centred upon long-running disputes and frosty relations between the governing body of La Liga and the Spanish FA.
