Mourinho targets Barca’s Umtiti?

Manchester United are targeting Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti to reinforce their defence next summer, according to reports in Spain.

The French international joined the Blaugrana from Lyon last summer and has become a mainstay at the heart of their defence alongside Gerard Pique.

However his current contract has a €60m release clause and Diario AS cites a report in the Daily Mirror which states United boss Jose Mourinho has made him his number one transfer priority.

The Red Devils signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica this summer but his slow start to life in England alongside Chris Smalling’s uncertain future is behind the club’s search for a new alternative.

AS concludes their report by stating the belief in such a deal stems from Real Madrid being so unwilling to negotiate any deal for Raphael Varane, for whom Mourinho is a big admirer.
