‘Valencia not thinking of Barca, Madrid…’

Valencia goalkeeper Neto insists Los Che aren’t thinking of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Getafe, only the work they need to do through the week.

Marcelino’s side sit in second place ahead of the international break, four points behind Barca but four clear of Madrid and Neto points to Valencia’s hard work in training as the reason for their fantastic early form, denying thoughts of a sustained title challenge.

“We don’t think about Madrid, or Barca, or Getafe. We think about working during training and coming to the matches ready to perform well. This is our goal and we don’t think about others. The virtue of a great team is to think about yourself. This is the main thing,” he said, AS reports.

“The secret is work and hope. We’re all excited for the same goal. This is fundamental. If we continue with this mentality and continue on this road I think we can fulfil many positive things. We can’t lower our arms.

“It’s hard to say what I expected when I joined. I was sure I could work well. In my head I was excited. Things are happening as I thought they would. Now we have to be stronger and stronger to know how far we can go.”

It was put to Neto that Valencia are benefitting from not playing in Europe while the likes of Barca, Madrid and Atletico Madrid have to juggle the Champions League, a suggestion the Brazil international rejects.

“I’m not sure because everyone wants to play in the Champions League. We have to find the positives. Maybe it can help, because of the physical issue, but if you were to ask the players, we all want to play in the Champions League. But the goal is to look for great things,” he explained.
