Roma sporting director Monchi has revealed Barcelona also failed to sign Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, like the Serie A club.
Monchi took a position in the Italian capital over the summer after a lengthy tenure at Sevilla and told the Gazzetta dello Sport that he wanted Mahrez, but Leicester weren’t interested in selling to anyone, including La Blaugrana.
“We wanted a forward who could replace Mohamed Salah and we thought about Mahrez,” Mundo Deportivo quotes Monchi as saying.
“However, if the signing wasn’t completed, it’s because Leicester didn’t want to sell. It’s not an excuse, since they also said no to Barcelona.”
