Ever Banega believes the ‘clear’ strength of the club’s home was on show as they secured a vital Champions League victory over Spartak Moscow.
The Argentine was on the scoresheet as Eduardo Berizzo’s side overcame the Russian outfit who had defeated them 5-1 only a fortnight earlier.
“We needed to win tonight, it was not about revenge,” Banega is quoted as telling Estadio Deportivo.
“We are very strong at home, this is clear, and tonight we showed it, our performance was what we aimed for.
“We tried to control the game, to press them in the right areas and not allow them to play their game, even when they pulled one back we did not lose our calm.
“It was important to recover from the recent defeats because when a team like Sevilla, who are used to winning, start to lose games then questions get asked.
“Now we must go step-by-step and now get carried away. Up next we must focus on Barcelona and only concern ourselves with the Liverpool game when it arrives.”
Sevilla, currently second in their group, have a home clash with Liverpool before a trip to Maribor.
