Illarra scores first Anoeta goal

Asier Illarramendi scored his first Real Sociedad goal at the Anoeta before being sent-off in Monday’s draw with Espanyol.

The visitors hit first through Leo Baptistao’s header in the ninth minute, but with 20 to go, Illarramendi – whose last goal at the stadium was for Real Madrid as a visiting player – equalised.

Quique Sanchez Flores’ men went ahead after impressive combination play between Baptistao and Jose Manuel Jurado, with the former flicking a header past Geronimo Rulli.

Former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj was influential in La Real’s equaliser as he beat the challenges of two away players before cutting back for Illarramendi, who was later sent off for two late cautions.

The Basques remain 9th in the standings, with just one win in their last six games, while Espanyol slip to 13th.
