Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has agreed a new one-year contract extension at the club until June 2019, say reports in Spain.
The 34-year-old’s current deal, which was signed a year ago, at Los Rojiblancos expires in 2018 while Diario AS states a new one-year agreement has been reached and will be announced imminently.
The central midfielder is in his second stint at the club and has appeared 60 times for Diego Simeone’s side since the start of last season, underlining his continued significance to the club.
The report continues the club’s policy for players who are over 30 and have maintained their fitness levels is to offer one-year contract extensions, which was the case for Gabi and Fernando Torres last season.
