Marcelo subject of tax investigation

Spanish tax authorities are set to open an investigation into Real Madrid defender Marcelo’s alleged unpaid €400k worth of image rights.

A report in Spanish daily newspaper El Mundo detailed how the Brazilian declared money as corporation tax rather than as personal income tax in a case dating back to 2013.

Due to the case involving more than €120k – the minimum for a case of alleged tax fraud to be considered – the authorities have opened an investigation.

The case has now been passed on to the Spanish financial crimes investigators who will make a judgement call on whether there was any intent on the full-back’s part to avoid tax.
