Benzema extends Madrid contract

Real Madrid have announced Karim Benzema has signed a new contract to tie him to the club until the summer of 2021.

The 29-year-old joined Madrid in a €35m deal from Olympique Lyonnais in 2009 and his current deal at the club was set to expire in June 2019.

The French striker, who has won 14 trophies at the Bernabeu – including two La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns – will now see his deal run through until after his 33rd birthday.

He follows teammates Isco and Dani Carvajal (both until 2022) in committing their long-term future to Los Blancos.

Last week, the striker confirmed he was not seeking a move away from the club, whom he described as going through a ‘vintage era’.
