Marcelo suspension halved

Marcelo's two-match ban for kicking Jefferson Lerma has been reduced to one match by the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) appeals committee.

The Brazilian full-back will now only miss Real Madrid's trip to Real Sociedad on Sunday but will return for the home clash against Real Betis the following week.

A two-game ban was the minimum punishment the 29-year-old could have initially been handed for the offence during last weekend's clash against Levante.

Marcelo has joined Cristiano Ronaldo, who will serve the fifth and final game of his ban, on the suspension list for the trip to Anoeta on Sunday.

Theo Hernandez – a summer signing from Atletico Madrid – is set to replace the 29-year-old in Madrid’s starting line up.
