Marcelo agrees Madrid two-year extension

Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has extended his contract at the Bernabeu for a further two years until June 2022.

The 29-year-old defender has been at Los Blancos since 2007, having joined from Brazilian side Fluminese and has since won three Champions League titles, La Liga four times and the Copa del Rey and FIFA Club World Cup twice.

The Brazil international has scored 28 times in 415 appearances for Madrid and looks set to challenge predecessor and compatriot Roberto Carlos's record for a foreign player of 527 appearances at Madrid.

Marcelo is suspended for Madrid's next two league games after his ban for being sent off for a kick at Jefferson Lerma in Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to newly-promoted Levante.

The left-back will be absent for the trip to Real Sociedad on Sunday and the visit of Real Betis on 20 September.
