Real Madrid vice captain Marcelo insists his side will pay no attention to the league table after one match but admitted winning at Deportivo was important.

Goals from Gareth Bale, Casemiro and Toni Kroos put the Spanish and European champions top of the fledging La Liga standings, with two opening day matches still to play.

“It is not important who are the leaders now but it was important to win,” Marcelo is quoted as saying by Marca.

“We will aim to win all 38 matches in La Liga, obviously this will be difficult but we are Real Madrid and we must set ourselves these targets.

“Sergio Ramos’ red card? This is football and that happens, he knows the things that he does – it was a difficult match and it's not up to me who has to tell him what is good and what is not.”
