Liverpool are ‘crazy’ for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes and the midfielder could be used as a makeweight in Philippe Coutinho’s move to the Camp Nou, say reports.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese international holds the key for Coutinho’s move to the Copa Del Rey winners and has made the Premier League side more open to negotiations.
The Reds reportedly baulked at the Blaugrana’s opening €70m offer for the former Inter playmaker but the former Benfica midfielder’s arrival plus a ‘significant fee’ would speed up a deal.
The 24-year-old midfielder arrived at the Camp Nou last summer from Valencia for €35m, plus a further €20m in add-ons, but has endured an underwhelming debut season.
Gomes featured 47 times for the Blaugrana last season but started only 17 La Liga games and was even played at right-back on occasion.
Mundo Deportivo report that whilst the central midfielder is rated highly in Catalonia despite a tough season, he would be moved on if it allowed Ernesto Valverde to shape his new squad.
