Besiktas return for Abdennour

Besiktas have entered the race to sign Valencia’s Aymen Abdennour, but the defender’s preference is to play in Italy or England, say reports.

According to Plaza Deportiva, the Turkish champions envisage the Tunisian international partnering new signing Pepe in the heart of their defence.

Besiktas and Galatasaray had reportedly registered an interest earlier in the summer but despite the player’s representatives pouring cold water on these efforts, a move now appears to have been revived.

Despite moving to the Mestalla two summers ago for a fee in the region of €20m, he is now thought to be on the market at €8m with Inter, Lazio and Watford also linked.

Abdennour made 48 appearances in all competitions for Los Che but started only nine La Liga games last season, and isn’t thought to be in new Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral’s plans after an underwhelming stint in Spain.
