James Rodriguez signed a one-year extension to his Real Madrid contract before his two-season loan move to Bayern Munich was completed, say reports.
According to Marca, the Colombian’s deal at the Bernabeu will now run until June 2021 with the extension coming as the playmaker would only have one year remaining following the completion of the loan stint.
Bayern have the option to buy the 25-year-old for a reported €35m at the end of the deal, but should they decide against taking that up it would have left Los Blancos with significantly less bargaining power in any deal.
The former FC Porto and Monaco star made 77 La Liga appearances across three seasons, netting 22 goals.
